What Does Life Look Like After You Sell Your Business?

Far too frequently, we encounter business owners who stop our marketing process at the 11th hour because someone along the way asked them the following question:

“Larry, what the heck are you going to do once you sell your company?”

This question, although important to consider, should not be overemphasized, because the real answer is:

Anything you want!

The reality is that exiting for most of our clients brings a significant amount of relief. The pressure of having to make all the decisions, of taking on additional debt to grow the business, and the issues that keep you up at night are largely gone.

And relief sets in.

This is true even for those clients that do a partial sale and retain some equity in the new company. Having deeper-pocketed partners can make a real difference since you have folks to share the financial load.

What I find really interesting about our clients that directly talk about a post-close sense of relief is that for most they were not expecting to feel that when they started their journey with us. It was a surprise emotion and one that many still enjoy to this day.
