Although final year-end numbers are far from completely tallied, based on Pitchbook’s research, 2021 will post some record-breaking numbers for closed deals. According to their 3rd quarter 2021 data:

Global M&A activity continued its record-setting pace, with just over 27,000 deals completed for a combined $3.4 trillion through the first three quarters of 2021.

The economic recovery coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic is fueling unprecedented M&A activity. Business travel is beginning to reemerge and many of the largest economies are adapting to the new normal brought on by the pandemic.

Additionally, the key drivers of all this M&A remain intact, meaning the current trend is likely to persist for several additional quarters, barring a new coronavirus variant shutting down global economies.

Generational agrees with this research. Thru 12.1.21 our closings were up 60% over 2020, and that year was a record year for the firm. So when 2021’s numbers are finalized, we anticipate being on the top of the Refinitiv league tables in many categories again. Take a look at 2020’s rankings:
